Wild Thyme - Vervain - Verbena Officinalis
A british native, Vervain is a pretty, perennial plant with delicate jagged leaves and small, pale lilac five-petaled flowers on long shoots.
It would make a lovely addition to a wildflower garden or herb garden.
Vervain has along history of use in herbal remedies. It was often used as a sleeping draught by Agatha Christie's villains and is still used as a gentle treatment for insomnia, anxiety and depression, when steeped in boiling water for a few minutes.
More recently it featured in the popular Netflix series Vampire Diaries as a herb with the ability to ward off or poison Vampires. These properties are entirely unproven and if pushed, I would personally stick to garlic.
Happy and easy to grow in any soil in any situation.
