Ribes x nidigrolaria
A hybrid of blackcurrant and gooseberry. A thornless, fast growing shrub to 2.5m high and wide. It is happy to be pruned every year and will grow back.
Shade tolerant but crops better in good light. We have ours in an edible hedge. Gives berries larger than a blackcurrant but with a more mild flavour. A good addition to mixed jams, or stewed for muesli, or in a country wine.
