In 1996 Oliver Dowding decided to do something with an old orchard which in the long and distant past had been home to cider trees. The field was known as “Lower Orchard”,
It is just under an acre but it was bereft of fruit trees. As part of a 1996 entry into the then Countryside Stewardship scheme he planted this area with 50 (mostly cider) apple trees.
In 2016 I increased the tree count by planting 500 dessert and cooker trees, of many varieties in 2 adjoining fields.
The bottled cider is best served chilled, and is of a medium dry nature.
