Smith Hall Farm

Smith Hall Farm

Smith Hall Farm, Smith Hall Lane, Hulland Ward, Derbys, DE6 3ES

We are a working farm of around 110 acres in the Derbyshire Dales. Ashley has been farming for 35 years. We have around 100 pigs ( a mixture of indigenous breeds) and 35 head of cattle (Shorthorn x Simmenthal). This means the animals are ideally suited to the climate, and they graze outside throughout the year. We have a butchery on the farm and produce our own pork and beef, selling at local farmers markets, such as Derby, Wirksworth and Belper. We also sell our lamb at different times of the year. Since 2012 we have been making pork pies on the farm, and have just won a Bronze award at Bakewell Show for our Stilton topped pies!
We make steak pies too. Our beef is well matured and this comes out in its flavour.
We are having a large solar array on 36 acres of pasture, which will produce electricity for the National Grid, enough to power a sizeable part of the local community. We are happy to produce renewable energy and will be able to use the land for grazing.
